FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Catholic Identity
Ash Wednesday Mass
Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent; this season takes us on a journey of renewal for forty days until the dawning of Easter. Students from Year 1 to 6 attended the Ash Wednesday Mass at the parish. We were all marked with ashes in the symbol of a cross to show that we want to turn away from whatever is keeping us for God so we can have a change of heart and draw closer to God.
For Catholics, Ash Wednesday is also a day of fasting and abstaining from meat. Fasting reminds us that food alone cannot make us happy. We must also be fed with prayer, with God's Word and receiving the Sacraments. Our small sacrifices during Lent make room in our hearts to welcome the risen Jesus at Easter. Project Compassion Launch
On Shrove Tuesday, Project Compassion for 2026 was launched. Your child will bring home a project compassion box this week. Please discuss the importance of supporting Catholic causes such as Project Compassion as a family.
Education Pillar
Parent Information Evening
Thank-you to the parents who attended the Parent Information Evening last Thursday. Your presence demonstrates to your children the value you hold for their education. Thank-you also to our staff for your commitment to our school community. Please refer to the slides distributed by the year level teachers and contact your child’s teachers if you have any questions.
Community Pillar
P and F New Families Welcome Sundowner
Thank-you to the P and F Executive for hosting the Welcome Sundowner for new families before the first P and F Meeting, last Friday. This was a wonderful community occasion with opportunities for new members of our Liwara community to meet and get to know each other. Thank-you also to Anne Stent, Lucy Heke, Angela Leddin and Stefanie Neri for their support of the event.
Stewardship Pillar
Attendance – Every Day Matters
The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) reinforces the strong correlation between school attendance and student achievement and highlights the importance of forming good attendance habits early. Poor attendance has serious and lasting consequences, in limiting achievement, social isolation and reducing engagement, to name a few.
If your child is sick and cannot attend school, please contact the office via the absentee form on the school website. https://www.liwara.wa.edu.au/absentee-notice/
Term Dates
Please refer to the school website for Term Dates, Pupil Free Days and the live School Calendar. This includes sacramental and key dates for the year.
Media Release - Catholic Education WA
Catholic Education WA (CEWA) will be moving toward the implementation of a three-week mid-year break for its 150 schools from the 2027 school year.
To help with the implementation of this initiative some schools may be required to make small adjustments to their term calendars and/or school timetabling as required. Students will continue to have the same number of contact hours across a school year as they currently do.
For further information please click on the following link: Three-Week Mid-Year Term Break FAQs.

CYBER SAFETY
New Social Media Age Rules for Under‑16s
From 10 December 2025, new Australian laws require major social media platforms—such as Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, Twitch, X and YouTube—to take steps to prevent children under 16 from having accounts. Find the updated list here: Which social media platforms are age-restricted? | eSafety Commissioner
The aim is to protect young people from harmful or addictive online content and reduce screen time by delaying access to social media until age 16. Social media features like constant notifications, disappearing stories and recommended content are designed to keep you online longer. These can affect wellbeing by causing stress, reducing sleep, making it harder to focus, encouraging unhealthy comparisons, and exposing you to negative or upsetting content.
The new social media restrictions aim to protect under‑16s from these impacts and give young people more time to develop emotional, social and digital skills so they can better recognise and manage harmful online experiences.
Families are encouraged to talk with their children about the changes and find healthy, screen‑free ways to stay connected and engaged.
SCHOOL VALUES - RESPECT
In Term One we are focusing on our school value of Respect. We display respect by taking care of resources and our belongings, following directions and rules and working co-operatively.

CANTEEN NEWS
This week, in celebration of Shrove Tuesday, we offered berry, apple & cinnamon, plain, and gluten‑free pikelets. They were extremely popular, and we completely sold out on the day. Thank you to everyone who supported the Canteen.
If your child has received an IOU note, payments can be made online by ordering the same item and adding a comment indicating that the order is for IOU payment only. IOUs can also be paid directly at the Canteen or through the office. We appreciate your prompt attention to these payments.
Please note that we cannot change the sushi or focaccia as these two items are purchased in ready for us, these are ‘green’ items on our menu, which makes them a healthy option. Reminder that sushi orders must be placed online by 9.00am each Thursday, so we can organise a fresh delivery for Friday.
For families placing lunch orders for the first time, our menu and online ordering system can be accessed at www.quickcliqs.com.au.
Check out the menu at https://www.liwara.wa.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/Canteen-Menu-Updated-12-December-2025.pdf - there is something for everyone to enjoy!!
Thank you once again for your continued support of our Canteen. It is greatly appreciated.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY VOLUNTEERS - PARENT HELPERS NEEDED
We're seeking parent volunteers to join our All Saints Greenwood parish children’s liturgy team! We need extra helpers to support our group leaders in supervising young children during the Sunday 9:30am Mass children’s liturgy sessions. Typically, we ask for a commitment of just one Sunday per term. Volunteers will need to secure a Working With Children check, and we’re happy to assist you with the process. If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to have you—please text Bianca at 0418 986 893 to sign up!
24:7 YOUTH MINISTRY
TUESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY
Last week at 24:7 Greenwood we enjoyed a vibrant and engaging evening filled with games, creativity, and faith formation. We began with a relaxed time of card games and cricket on the oval, giving the young people an opportunity to connect and enjoy some outdoor activity before moving into our structured group games for the night. Paper Scissors Hop and Categories brought plenty of energy and laughter, encouraging participation and strengthening the sense of community within the group.
Following the games, we transitioned into an arts and crafts activity where the young people painted different symbols of the Church. This creative component provided a meaningful way to engage with elements of our faith in a hands-on and reflective manner. We then shared dinner together, continuing to build fellowship around the table before gathering for the evening’s teaching. Our Youth Minister, Lucy, delivered the main talk, introducing our new term theme, Unpacking the Mass. She provided an accessible and thoughtful overview, helping the young people begin to understand the deeper meaning and structure of the Mass.
NEXT YOUTH GROUP
Our next Youth Group will continue exploring the theme Unpacking the Mass. We will be welcoming a guest speaker who will focus specifically on the significance of the Liturgy of the Word, helping the young people gain a deeper appreciation of its role within the Mass and its importance in nourishing our faith through Scripture.
God Bless, Jesse & Lucy
