Please also take a moment to pray for peace:
Loving God,
We pray for peace in the middle east.
We pray for children and families who feel scared or unsafe.
Please protect them and help leaders make wise and peaceful choices.
Make us people who bring peace to our classrooms, playgrounds and homes.
Be with those who are suffering,
Be with us and those that we love.
Amen

Dear Parents and Caregivers
Catholic Identity
Family Mass
Our first Family Mass at the parish was well attended by families and staff. Thank-you to Father Elver for leading the Mass, Stefanie Neri for preparing the Mass, Natalie Mandry and Amanda McCabe for leading the choir and music and all those who participated.
Education Pillar
Standardised Testing and NAPLAN
The standardised testing schedule is currently underway. On-entry, Numeracy and Literacy testing is completed by the class teachers, providing valuable information to inform programs at both class and school level.
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual, nationwide literacy and numeracy assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. In 2026, NAPLAN will be held between 11th-23rd March. The NAPLAN assessments are one of the methods that schools use to determine the achievement of our students and can support school improvement by enabling teachers to monitor their students' progress over time against the national measure. It provides additional information to support teacher judgement about improvement in a child's literacy and numeracy. Teachers will work with students to ensure they are familiar with the test format and it is recommended that a calm, encouraging approach be used in the approach to the testing.
Extra-curricular Activities
The students at Liwara are offered a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities. Puzzle club, run club, soccer and invasion games, choir, instrumental music, basketball, netball, tennis and Bricks for Kidz are all activities provided to the students at Liwara. I would like to thank the Liwara staff who lead and organise some of these opportunities for our students, above and beyond their teaching roles.
Year 5 Big Day Out
Today, our Year 5 students have gone to their Big Day Out, a day filled with adventure activities and team building in the Swan Valley. There has been much anticipation in the lead up to the event and I am sure they will have had a fantastic time.
Community Pillar
The first Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC) Meeting for the year was held on Tuesday evening. Thank-you to our parent leaders for committing to endorsing and supporting school operations. Together with the leadership team, we will strive to make Liwara an even better school for all students, parents and staff members. Thank-you to the CSAC members who will continue in their formal roles for another year.

CYBER SAFETY
New Social Media Age Rules for Under‑16s
From 10 December 2025, new Australian laws require major social media platforms—such as Facebook, Instagram, Kick, Reddit, Snapchat, Threads, TikTok, Twitch, X and YouTube—to take steps to prevent children under 16 from having accounts. Find the updated list here: Which social media platforms are age-restricted? | eSafety Commissioner
The aim is to protect young people from harmful or addictive online content and reduce screen time by delaying access to social media until age 16. Social media features like constant notifications, disappearing stories and recommended content are designed to keep you online longer. These can affect wellbeing by causing stress, reducing sleep, making it harder to focus, encouraging unhealthy comparisons, and exposing you to negative or upsetting content.
The new social media restrictions aim to protect under‑16s from these impacts and give young people more time to develop emotional, social and digital skills so they can better recognise and manage harmful online experiences.
Families are encouraged to talk with their children about the changes and find healthy, screen‑free ways to stay connected and engaged.
SCHOOL VALUES - RESPECT
In Term One we are focusing on our school value of Respect. We display respect by taking care of resources and our belongings, following directions and rules and working co-operatively.

YEAR 4 CLASSROOM NEWS
Year 4 Green and Year 4 Red have been diving into the world of creative writing as they learn how to craft sizzling starts! Students discovered that the first few lines of a story can make all the difference, and they have been exploring exciting ways to hook their readers from the very first sentence. From dramatic dialogue and explosive sound effects to action-packed openings and vivid descriptions, the classroom has been buzzing with creativity. We explored examples together and unpacked what makes an opening truly unforgettable before students unleashed their imaginations to create their own powerful story beginnings. It has been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they eagerly shared their sizzling starts with classmates, often leaving their audience wanting more! We are so proud of the enthusiasm, creativity, and risk-taking both classes have shown, and we can’t wait to see these talented young writers bring their full stories to life!

CANTEEN NEWS
Canteen Volunteers Wanted!
The Liwara Canteen is looking for 2–3 regular parent volunteers to help on Fridays (11.30 am–12.30 pm).
No experience required—just a willingness to complete a free Food Handling course.
It’s a fantastic way to support our school and our students. We’d love to welcome you!
We have received a few requests from parents offering to volunteer in the canteen. Due to the updated rules from Foodcore, all volunteers have to have completed the Foodsafe on-line training. We do, however, have a link that enables access to the training for free. If parents are interested, they can contact us in the canteen where we will give you the unique code for the training. Thank you.
If you have received an IOU note sent home, these can be paid online by ordering the same items with a note in the comments section, noting that this order is for payment of an IOU only. Of course, they can also be paid at the Canteen or at the office. Thank you for your prompt payment of these.
Please note that we cannot change the sushi or focaccia as these two items are purchased in ready for us, these are ‘green’ items on our menu, which makes them a healthy option. Sushi must be ordered online by 9.00am on Thursday please, so we can place the order for fresh delivery on Friday.
Check out the menu at https://www.liwara.wa.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/Canteen-Menu-Updated-12-December-2025.pdf - there is something for everyone to enjoy!!
Thank you once again, we really appreciate your support of our Canteen.

24:7 YOUTH MINISTRY
TUESDAY 17TH MARCH
Last week at 24:7 Greenwood Youth Group, the young people gathered for an engaging evening filled with games, fun, and opportunities to deepen their faith. The night began with a relaxed time of fellowship, where some of the youth enjoyed card games while others played cricket outside. This informal start allowed everyone to connect, unwind, and settle into the evening together before the formal program began.
The structured part of the night commenced with a game of Wall Tag, which quickly brought energy and excitement to the group. This was followed by a round of Red Light, Green Light, another lively game that encouraged participation and friendly competition among the youth.
Following the games, the group gathered for the talk of the evening.
On Sunday, the youth were fortunate to be joined by Lionel, who shared his insights on the Offertory as part of the term theme, Unpacking the Mass. Lionel explained that the Offertory is not simply the moment when the bread and wine are brought forward during Mass, but also an invitation for each person to spiritually offer their own sacrifices, efforts, and intentions to God. He encouraged the young people to reflect on how they can unite their daily struggles, achievements, and acts of love with the offering made at the altar, recognising that the Offertory represents a deeper act of giving ourselves to God.
The evening concluded with anticipation for the following week’s gathering, which promises to be another exciting opportunity for the youth to come together in faith and fellowship.
NEXT YOUTH GROUP
Our next Youth Group will take place next week and will feature a Game Show Night, where the young people will participate in a variety of interactive and entertaining games. During the evening, the group will also continue exploring the term theme, Unpacking the Mass, with a guest speaker who will share a reflection on the significance of Holy Communion.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Set beneath the ocean’s surface and along a sunlit shoreline, The Little Mermaid follows Ariel — a curious young mermaid with a head full of dreams — who longs to explore life beyond the waves. When she makes a risky deal to chase that dream, she discovers that growing up isn’t just about getting what you want, but learning what truly matters: family, courage, and finding your voice. For parents, it’s more than a day or night out. Live musical theatre gives children something screens can’t: shared laughter in a room full of people, music that lands in the chest, and a story that becomes a conversation on the way home. It’s a rare kind of family time — everyone together, swept up in the same moment.
