At Liwara all students are supported by explicit and scaffolded teaching in the areas of English and Mathematics.

Students are encouraged to engage fully in their English learning and we believe this empowers our students to become life-long learners. Our aim is to equip each student with their own set of strategies to assist independent learning.

Ongoing assessment, monitoring and evaluating are vital to the planning and teaching of our literacy programs and teachers maintain high expectations of all students. Students are immersed in good literature and quality resources are provided to ensure learning is purposeful.

Students become literate as they develop the skills to listen, read, view, write and speak, as well as creating visual and digital print materials accurately and purposefully.

At Liwara we aim to develop student’s love and passion for Mathematics. We encourage our students to pose and solve problems and reason in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability.

We aim to provide our students with experiences that allow them to recognize connections between the areas of Mathematics and other disciplines and appreciate mathematics as purposeful and enjoyable. We have a contemporary approach to delivering the West Australian Mathematics Curriculum by providing a stimulating environment with adequate resources so that children can develop their mathematical skills to their full potential. We strive to develop individuals who are numerate, creative, independent, inquisitive, enquiring, confident and risk takers in the area of Mathematics.

Ongoing assessment at Liwara drives classroom instruction. We assess students using a variety of tools and methods and use this assessment to differentiate Maths instruction so that everyone is challenged and supported within the classrooms. Children have the opportunity to reflect on their own learning through self-assessment and goal setting. Teachers at Liwara provide students with rich tasks that cater for all learning styles.
