From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Caregivers
In celebration of all our mothers and mother figures in our school community I would like to share this reflection, with you.
MOTHER’S DAY REFLECTION
- It is Mother’s Day, a time to remind me to remember. Remember all that you have done for me, all that you are, and all that you will ever be in my life.
- Through the good and the bad, you have been there. Loving and caring all of the way with me. Mending broken hearts and sharing the joys.
- Caught up in my busy life I am guilty of not always showing just how much I love you and to know that you are always in my heart; that my love for you is beyond anything that I could ever do or say.
Mother’s Day Celebration Our Mother’s Day Breakfast held on Wednesday 11 May was a fantstic event which the staff were so happy to be able to organise in the grounds of our beautiful school. Once again, the staff outdid themselves by spending many hours in planning and preparation and setting up late on Tuesday evening and coming in very early on Wednesday morning, as they wanted to prepare a very special breakfast experience for our mums and significant mother figures. The photo booth was beautifully created and was a huge hit once again! I thank you all, on behalf of the staff, for attending our special breakfast celebration.
CDP UPDATE As we are in preparation for the start of the Capital Development Plan project, which encompasses three building having new roofs, new ceilings and ducted air conditioning, we have started by relocating the classes and OSHC from the block closest to the administration building. Our OSHC, for those of you who are not users, has been relocated to the school multipurpose area (Ahern Centre) where we normally hold our assemblies and whole school events. The Year Five classes have set themselves up comfortably in the library and Mrs Margetic is enjoying having their company! The Year Four classes are set up in the Science and Language (Italian) rooms. Our Science and Italian teachers will be mobile whilst the works are underway. A huge thank you to Ms Leddin & Signora Licastro. The other two blocks, to be worked on further down the track, are the Year One/Two classrooms and the Year Six building. I would like to thank all staff and students who have been relocated, for their support and for going about their business as if nothing much has changed. At the end of last term there were a couple of weeks of many extra hours put in by all to pack resources and identify furniture that was needed/not required in their new, temporary homes, as all rooms under the 4/5/OSHC roof needed to be completely emptied so everything was safely out of harms way. The great news is that the contractors will be starting work on the project on Monday 16 May.
IMPORTANT CHANGE OF DROP OFF AND PICK UP – GATE #6 TO GATE #7 DUE TO THE CDP. As the builders have taken possession of the site today, Friday 13 May and the fences have gone up to secure the site, we will be moving the morning drop off and afternoon pick up away from Gate #6 over to Gate #7, from Monday 16 May. Thank you for your understanding and support.
GREENWOOD ST VINCENT DE PAUL CAR BOOT APPEAL The St Vincent de Paul Society - Greenwood Conference, is reaching out to the Liwara Catholic School community to assist with donations of non-perishable food items and toiletries on Saturday 28th May 8.00am - 12.00pm. No matter how big or small, all donations will be gratefully accepted. Please see attached notice. Many thanks from the St Vincent de Paul Society - Greenwood Conference.
THANK YOU FR ELVER As our OSHC program is currently housed in the Ahern Centre we are blessed with an extremely supportive and understanding parish priest, as Fr Elver has given us permission to use the church for all whole school events – assemblies, hymn singing, instrumental music performances and anything else that comes our way where we need the space, until we have the buildings all completed. A huge thank you!
PLAYGROUND UPDATE I received some great news last Friday from Adventure+ Playgrounds informing me that the installation date for the new oval playground is going to be Monday 30 May. As they explained to me late last year they have had a long wait for many of their suppliers as raw materials and equipment have been hard to come by in the last 18 months due to long delays due to the COVID-19 impact on transporting of supplies, but, we now have a date!
COFFEE VAN - Tuesdays with a Twist! The interest and enthusiasm that Phil’s Twisties Coffee van created last Tuesday whilst Running Club was in progress, is a great reflection of our wonderful Liwara community and because of many requests for an encore, we now have him on site on a Thursday morning too. Thank you for supporting this great initiative! I can’t wait to get down there too!
NAPLAN TESTING SCHEDULE Our Year 3 and Year 5 classes commenced NAPLAN testing on Tuesday 10 May. Everything has been going smoothly for all our students and we thank you, as parents, for your support in keeping your children who are involved in the testing as calm and stress free as possible as they engage in the different days of testing.
KINDY 2023/2024 AND PRE KINDY 2023 I am currently meeting with future and current parents for our Kindy 2023/2024 & Pre Kindy 2023 interviews. If you have children who fit into these time frames, I urge you to contact our enrolment officer, Karen Rosser, to discuss the enrolment process as the places are filling steadily.
SCHOOL FEES Families have received their fee statements. If any family is having difficulties in paying their school fees, they are urged to book an appointment with the bursar Lee Hansen, or myself, as soon as possible. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Wishing you God’s blessings
Mrs Andrea Millar

It was great to see so many children, and some of their parents, attending Running Club last week. We had in excess of 90 students join in on the first day and numbers have held steady. Maybe it has something to do with the coffee van set-up but, its great to have everyone (children and their parents) out on the oval and running around together. Hope you can make it too on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8am (unless cancelled, via Seesaw, due to inclement weather.

Our Classroom News
From Year Two
Making Jesus Real in Year 2
The Year 2 students have been focusing on positive and negative attitudes. We have learnt that we can have a positive attitude by being enthusiastic, being around positive people, smiling and changing our thoughts. When you have a positive attitude, people will love being around you, you will feel good, it will spread positivity and keep you in a positive mindset.
Attitudes are contagious, so ask yourself, is MY attitude worth catching?
