As I arise today, may the strength of God pilot me, the power of God uphold me, the wisdom of God guide me.

May the eye of God look before me, the ear of God hear me, the word of God speak for me.

May the hand of God protect me, the way of God lie before me, the shield of God defend me,                         the host of God save me.   May Christ shield me today.

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit, Christ when I stand,                 Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

  • Harmony Day

and more...

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Due to the enormous efforts of our dedicated P&F fundraising initiatives and the wonderful Liwara community who support all their planned events in 2022, we have: 1) Recently installed new backboards and nets on all the basketball and netball poles in the courts. 2) I am currently receiving quotes for air conditioning units that will be installed in the Music and Instrumental Tutorial rooms.  3) Mrs Evans is coordinating the new buddy bench and getting our students involved in choosing the colours and design for the bench as well as helping to decide on where the students think the best position for it is. 4) It was also decided on at the P&F meeting that some of the fundraising money from 2022 will be put towards the upgrading of the oval, our students favourite play area, now that the works on the bore and pump are being attended to. We have recently had the  redevelopment and recommissioning of the groundwater production bore.  Mr Ridout was very excited when the oval sprinklers began to almost double the distance they sprayed, once the bore had been recommissioned and the loan pump put in.

I shared the good news with those present at the P&F meeting on Tuesday evening about the amount of $65,000 which has now been deposited into our school bank account.  Anne Aly was instrumental in securing us the total of $65K through her endorsement of Liwara as part of the 2022 Schools Upgrade Fund.  These funds will be going solely towards the extension of the recently installed playground on the oval. I will be convening a meeting soon with all interested parties to begin working on a design for the new playground.  We will send out a Microsoft form for parents to fill in if you are interested in coming along to join other community members in the first stages of planning.  If you are keen to be involved it is important you fill in the form as it will determine where we hold the meeting.

Parent-Teacher interviews are coming up soon and we will be finishing the school day at 12.00pm on Thursday 30 March for parents to have the opportunity to meet with class teachers to discuss your child’s Interim Report and early progress.  Class teachers will be sending out separate information to each of their families to schedule times to meet.  We ask that children are picked up at 12.00pm on Thursday 30 March to allow teachers half an hour to have their lunch before beginning interviews.  If your child is booked into OSCH on Thursday 30 March they will be supervised by staff and dropped to the OSHC centre at 3.00pm.

This week our Year 3 and Year 5 students were involved in the annual NAPLAN assessment.  This national testing assesses literacy and numeracy skills and allows parents and caregivers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time.  NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process and it provides additional information to teachers and parents about each child’s educational progress.

On Tuesday 21 March we come together to celebrate Harmony Day and the children are encouraged to wear an orange accessory from home on the day.  Harmony Day was created in 1999 to celebrate unity and diversity and is celebrated worldwide by reflecting on the ways we can live in harmony with our neighbours, regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances.  Since Harmony Day was initiated there have been over 55,000 events held, worldwide.  Harmony Day this year is being coordinated by our Special Events Ministry, their mentor teachers, Mrs Biggar & Mrs Dawe and Mrs Shilkin, one of our HASS coordinators who have been planning some special activities to mark this celebration.  The students are asked to wear orange accessories and each class will be participating in a special activity to mark this celebration.  Our Junior Primary classes have also been learning a special song to mark the day which they will be sharing with the rest of the school.

Monday 20 March is International Day of Happiness: The theme this year is ‘Be Mindful.  Be Grateful. Be Kind’.  By tuning in to your feelings, looking for what’s good and sharing kindness you can nurture yourself and help make things better day by day.  There are lots of big and worrying issues in our world right now.  We can’t always change what is happening, but we can choose how we respond. We can do more to create a happier and kinder world when we connect with others and unite together.

I wish you God’s blessings for the coming week.

Andrea Millar

To facilitate these meetings, our school will have an early closure day on Thursday the 30th of March for students in PP – Year 6. Students are to be collected at 12.00pm and interviews will commence at 12.30pm. If your child walks/rides to and from school, they are welcome to do so at 12:00pm as per their normal school departure routine.

Kindy Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held in Term Two after Kindy Screening has concluded and thus school will finish as usual at 3pm for Kindy on Thursday the 30th of March. You are welcome to sign your child out through the office if you wish to take them home with their siblings at 12:00pm.

Year 5 – Year 5 will be on excursion Thursday 30th March and will be returning to school by 12:30pm. Please refer to information sent out by Mrs McGavigan and Mr Varady.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss how your child has settled into the school year, their progress thus far, work habits and upcoming interim report. Ten-minute interviews are scheduled using fifteen-minute timeslots to allow transitions between meetings. Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your scheduled meeting time and wait patiently outside your child’s classroom for their teacher.

Should you not be able to attend a face-to-face meeting you are welcome to schedule a phone meeting or utilise before and after school times made available by the classroom teacher across Weeks 8 and 9. Where possible, please arrange for your child to be supervised offsite during this meeting as limited staff supervision will be provided during these meetings. As previously mentioned by Mrs Millar, only those students who are booked into OSHC on Thursday the 30th of March will be supervised by school staff and escorted to OSHC at 3pm.

Making Jesus Real

At Liwara, we model Jesus’ actions and words by ‘Making Jesus Real’ every day through our words and actions.

Jesus spoke to everyone. Following in His footsteps, we will model that when you greet, treat and speak to people, it can open positive doors for you and/or help others with their day.

Youth Ministry 150323

Youth Group Goals

  1. 20 youth to attend.
  2. To help our young people to realise that we don’t always need to worry about everything in life.
  3. To create a safe and engaging space for our young people.

Goal Status

  1. This week we had 19 young people, so we only just fell short of our target.
  2. We were able to help our young people to understand this through our talk and through the games
  3. We were able to do this as our leaders made an effort to get around our young people as much as possible.

Youth Group Talk / Focus

Hakuna Matata (No Worries)
This week, we continued our theme of Faith Through Film by looking at the Lion King, in particular the song Hakuna Matata or "No Worries". We had a guest speaker, Elijah, come and open up the idea of what it means to have no worries in our lives. He explained to us how being made in the image and likeness of God means that God is always watching out for us and helping us.

Next Youth Group Theme

A Whole New World

Next week we will be looking at Aladdin, in particular A Whole New World and how there is so many opportunities for us to see the world around us in so many different ways.

This Past Week's Non-Youth Group Activities/Masses/External Involvement
