FAITH TRUST RESPECT MERCY
Our Leadership Team
From the Principal's Desk
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Staff and Students,
Welcome to the end of Week Three of Term One, 2022. While our return to school has not been what we hoped or planned for, I am extremely proud of how well everyone has settled into the new year and re-engaged with school. Thank you to everyone, even our littlest ones, who have shown great agility and resilience during these unpredictable times. It has been wonderful to see the joy and excitement on our students’ faces as they have been pouring into school each morning. The students have welcomed our new families and greeted new staff with courtesy and kindness. I am certain that we are in for an excellent year of positive relationships and tremendous outcomes for our students across all areas of school life.
Sincerest thanks to our staff for their dedication in preparing their classrooms to welcome the students. The learning areas are all looking invigorating and are testament to the care and devotion our staff have towards ensuring school is an exciting place for our students. The teachers are happy to be back with their new groups of students as they use the first few weeks to develop confidence in students and to introduce them to the new experiences and expectations for the year.
As always, the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff is our highest priority and as WA is now considered to be in a high caseload setting, we need to remain vigilant and monitor for COVID symptoms. If your child is unwell, they should not attend school and if anyone in your household displays any of the COVID-19 symptoms they should seek testing immediately. Please notify us if this applies to your family at any time, ensuring those impacted isolate until a negative result is received. Please notify us immediately of a positive test result, with the assurance that any communications which result will protect both the privacy and dignity of all concerned. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to keeping our community safe.
A letter has been sent out today to all families regarding COVID-19 high caseload mask wearing which was sent through from the Catholic Education Office. It will be helpful if you have a conversation with your children, after reading the letter, about the ‘try a mask’ sessions which are going to be part of our education programs in the near future.
We continue this year with our whole school focus on student wellbeing and resilience. We acknowledge that students experience a tremendous amount of physical and mental growth on a daily basis and face lots of new experiences and challenges. Being resilient gives our children the ability to tackle these head-on, bounce back from any setbacks and have the best chance at success. It allows them to grow in all situations – two skills that are crucial to positive wellbeing and development. Resilience will also help them to approach new situations, people or experiences with confidence and a positive mindset, which will make them more likely to succeed. Teachers will introduce a number of strategies across the school to foster positive wellbeing and resilience.
I wish you all a wonderful weekend spent with family and friends.
God bless,
Andrea Millar

Liwara Swimming Carnival
We have managed to save the Liwara Swimming Carnival from cancellation by transferring the event to an outdoor venue. The Swimming Carnival comes under the classification of ‘Special Infrequent Event’ which allows us to conduct the event as normal, providing it's at an outdoor venue. As such, we have relocated to the Craigie Leisure Centre and maintained the same date, March 3rd. Further details will be forwarded to relevant Year levels (ie. Years 4 – 6) in the near future.

Our Classroom News
From Year 6
Leadership is always an important focus in Year 6. The students are a wonderful representation of Liwara and its values and this can be seen through their daily actions. Students were asked to think of a word that describes a successful leader and this is what they came up with! The larger the word, the more times it was chosen as important.
Students participated in our Leadership Day with three areas of focus…
