Family Mass  

Our first Family Mass at the parish was well attended by families and staff. Thank-you to Father Elver for leading the Mass, Stefanie Neri for preparing the Mass, Natalie Mandry and Amanda McCabe for leading the choir and music and all those who participated. 

Education Pillar 

Standardised Testing and NAPLAN 

The standardised testing schedule is currently underway. On-entry, Numeracy and Literacy testing is completed by the class teachers, providing valuable information to inform programs at both class and school level.   

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual, nationwide literacy and numeracy assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. In 2026, NAPLAN will be held between 11th-23rd March. The NAPLAN assessments are one of the methods that schools use to determine the achievement of our students and can support school improvement by enabling teachers to monitor their students' progress over time against the national measure. It provides additional information to support teacher judgement about improvement in a child's literacy and numeracy. Teachers will work with students to ensure they are familiar with the test format and it is recommended that a calm, encouraging approach be used in the approach to the testing.  

Extra-curricular Activities 

The students at Liwara are offered a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities. Puzzle club, run club, soccer and invasion games, choir, instrumental music, basketball, netball, tennis and Bricks for Kidz are all activities provided to the students at Liwara. I would like to thank the Liwara staff who lead and organise some of these opportunities for our students, above and beyond their teaching roles.  

Year 5 Big Day Out 

Today, our Year 5 students have gone to their Big Day Out, a day filled with adventure activities and team building in the Swan Valley. There has been much anticipation in the lead up to the event and I am sure they will have had a fantastic time.  

Community Pillar 

The first Catholic School Advisory Council (CSAC) Meeting for the year was held on Tuesday evening. Thank-you to our parent leaders for committing to endorsing and supporting school operations. Together with the leadership team, we will strive to make Liwara an even better school for all students, parents and staff members. Thank-you to the CSAC members who will continue in their formal roles for another year.

Clean Up Australia Day 

Thank-you to Pia Tilka, our Science teacher, for coordinating our Clean-up Australia Day activity. She delivered a pertinent speech inspiring us all to do our bit to ensure we look after our school environment and protect the waterways, bush and oceans.  

Connecting Schools Grant

We are excited to announce that Liwara has successfully secured a $3500 Connecting Schools Grant from the Department of Transport and Major Infrastructure. The grant will be used to provide additional bike racks. Many thanks to Ciaran Sanders for his work on the grant application and for his promotion of active transport options.
