Mary MacKillop Prayer

God, through the intercession of Mary MacKillop,

We pray that the fire of your compassion will ignite many hearts.

May Mary’s attentiveness to your dream inspire us.

May her energy to overcome injustice empower us.

May we, like her, make manifest your Presence in our troubled world.

We pray that the beacon of her holiness shine as a blessing for the universal Church and our world.

We make this prayer in Jesus’ name.

Amen.

Tomorrow, August 8th, is Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s Feast Day. This date marks the anniversary of her death in 1909 and is observed across Australia and the Catholic Church to honour the country's first canonised saint.Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop co-founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart and fought for the education of poor and rural children.

Thank-you to our Year 4 students for leading a meaningful whole school prayer service this week. The theme was Forgiveness with a special message to our Year 3 students as they continue their preparation to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. 2026 Census

The Australian Bureau of Statistics will be conducting the five-yearly national Census of Population and Housing on Tuesday, 11 August 2026. One key question that is optional asks Australians to identify their religion. For Catholics, this question is crucial to helping Catholic parishes, schools, dioceses, and organisations understand their communities. Please refer to the Media Release from the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference encouraging Catholics to identify themselves in the Census.  For further information please click on this link:  Media Release

P and F Quiz Night

Thank-you to Linda and her team of volunteers for their work in preparing for the Quiz night next Friday evening. I am sure it will be a fantastic evening for our community.

Liwara Digital Museum

The launch of the Liwara Digital Museum is a wonderful celebration of our school's rich history and the dedication of staff who have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. What began as Andrea Millar's dream to create a place where "the beautiful school has its history out there for all to read about" has become a reality through the combined efforts of Andrea Millar, Gaye Margetic and Amanda McCabe. Andrea's commitment to "leave a legacy" for future generations inspired the project, while Gaye laid important foundations through earlier website development work. Amanda's expertise and creativity helped transform the vision into the engaging digital experience we can now share with our community. Their collaboration, perseverance and belief in preserving Liwara's story have created a lasting resource that honours our past, celebrates our present and inspires future generations. We thank them for their outstanding contribution to our school community. Please take some time to journey through the story of Liwara Catholic Primary School.  Click here to access the new Digital Museum.

Introducing the CEWA Parent and Carer Code of Conduct

The new Parent and Carer Code of Conduct articulates our shared expectations for respectful engagement, safety and support. By working together in partnership, families and staff help create a welcoming environment where all students are valued and empowered to succeed. Click here for the link

24:7 YOUTH MINISTRY

TUESDAY 18TH AUGUST

Last week at 24:7 Greenwood, we had another fantastic evening filled with games, fellowship, faith and meaningful conversation. It was wonderful to see the young people come together and continue to grow in their friendships and faith as a community.

We began the evening with some relaxed fellowship time, giving everyone an opportunity to catch up and connect with one another. We also enjoyed a game of Imposter before moving into our first organised game of the night, the Name Game. This provided a great opportunity for everyone to get involved and encouraged the young people to interact with one another in a fun and engaging environment.

We then continued the evening with a game of Stations before settling down for our faith formation. Our talk was led by one of our Student Leaders, Antonio, who spoke to the young people about the Death and Resurrection of Jesus.

Antonio explored the suffering that Jesus experienced throughout His Passion and the incredible sacrifice He made for us through His Death on the Cross. He also encouraged the young people to consider the reality that suffering is something each of us will encounter at different points throughout our lives. Rather than avoiding or ignoring suffering, we explored how we can turn towards Jesus in these moments and allow Him to accompany us through our difficulties.

Antonio also shared a personal testimony about an experience of suffering in his own life and how turning towards Jesus helped him through that difficult period. His willingness to share his own experience provided a powerful and relatable example for the young people, demonstrating how faith in Christ can provide strength, hope and consolation even when circumstances are challenging.

The evening was a wonderful reminder that Jesus understands our suffering because He Himself entered fully into the human experience of suffering and ultimately conquered sin and death through His Resurrection. We are grateful to Antonio for his willingness to share both his faith and his personal testimony with the group.

NEXT YOUTH GROUP

This week at 24:7 Greenwood, we will continue our exploration of the Nicene Creed. One of our Volunteer Leaders will be leading the evening’s talk, focusing on the next section of the Creed and what it teaches us about the Church.

Together, we will explore what Catholics believe about the Church, why the Church is an important part of our faith and how these beliefs are expressed through the words of the Creed. It will be another opportunity for the young people to deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith while continuing to explore some of the fundamental beliefs that unite us as the Church.

We look forward to another great evening of fellowship, faith and fun together at 24:7 Greenwood.

God Bless, Jesse & Lucy
