NAIDOC Week Prayer
God of all creation
As we journey together in this Great Southern Land,
We pray for healing, forgiveness, and unity,
Creating a path of good will, with justice and compassion.
Jesus, through the power of your love,
You have given us the courage, wisdom, and strength,
To share our gifts and talents in humility.
In peace and understanding we reconcile with each other.
Creator Spirit, we come together in prayer and thanksgiving,
For the many blessings we have received,
Allow your Spirit to wash over us and give us strength to walk together as one.
Amen

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Caregivers
I hope you had a nice change of pace, over the term break, if it was possible with your work commitments. Thank-you for maintaining high standards for your children for the beginning of Term Three. Small daily actions, such as wearing the school uniform neatly and being prepared with the necessary equipment for learning, help students develop pride in themselves and their school. These habits build self-confidence and support a positive mindset for learning and achievement. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." (Commonly attributed to Aristotle)
Catholic Identity
Catholic Performing Arts Opening Mass
Yesterday, two of our Year 6 music students, Erin and Scarlett, accompanied our Music Teacher Miss Mandry and Miss Leddin to the opening Mass for the Catholic Performing Arts Festival at St Mary’s Cathedral. The Mass was lovely, enhanced by excellent liturgical music. The Catholic Catholic Performing Arts Festival commences next week. We wish our ensembles, choirs and individual entrants all the very best.
Opening Term Mass
Today, we celebrated the Beginning-of-Term Mass at our parish. Father Elver is away. Thank-you to Father Ziggy for leading the Mass, and all the school staff and students who assisted in preparing the Mass and participating in the music and other ministries during Mass.
2026 Census
The Australian Bureau of Statistics will be conducting the five-yearly national Census of Population and Housing on Tuesday, 11 August 2026. One key question that is optional asks Australians to identify their religion. For Catholics, this question is crucial to helping Catholic parishes, schools, dioceses, and organisations understand their communities. Please refer to the Media Release from the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference encouraging Catholics to identify themselves in the Census. Education Pillar
NAIDOC Week
NAIDOC Week was officially celebrated in the holidays. Since 1975, NAIDOC Week has been held every year to celebrate and elevate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, culture and resilience. This year marks 50 years of celebrating the people who built NAIDOC Week, the stories that have been shared, the culture that has been celebrated, and the leadership that has inspired.
Classes have been involved in creating a collaborative artwork, a colouring competition and cooking, among other hands-on activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week. Themed literacy activities have been shared and next week we have an incursion booked with the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Group coming to perform and hold a Q and A session. Thank-you to the staff in the Gecko’s Culture Team for coordinating these learning experiences.
Community Pillar
Liwara Digital Museum
The launch of the Liwara Digital Museum is a wonderful celebration of our school's rich history and the dedication of staff who have worked tirelessly to bring this vision to life. What began as Andrea Millar's dream to create a place where "the beautiful school has its history out there for all to read about" has become a reality through the combined efforts of Andrea Millar, Gaye Margetic and Amanda McCabe. Andrea's commitment to "leave a legacy" for future generations inspired the project, while Gaye laid important foundations through earlier website development work. Amanda's expertise and creativity helped transform the vision into the engaging digital experience we can now share with our community. Their collaboration, perseverance and belief in preserving Liwara's story have created a lasting resource that honours our past, celebrates our present and inspires future generations. We thank them for their outstanding contribution to our school community. Please take some time to journey through the story of Liwara Catholic Primary School. Click here to access the new Digital Museum.
Introducing the CEWA Parent and Carer Code of Conduct
We are committed to building a school community where every child can flourish. The new Parent and Carer Code of Conduct articulates our shared expectations for respectful engagement, safety and support. By working together in partnership, families and staff help create a welcoming environment where all students are valued and empowered to succeed. Click here for the link
Stewardship Pillar
Holiday Maintenance and Minor Works
We are excited to share that the upper basketball court renovation is almost complete. The resurfacing occurred over the holidays, and the line marking is the final stage that is currently underway. Several other maintenance, safety, gardening, cleaning and improvement projects were completed over the holidays. Many thanks to our grounds staff, Chris and Ken, and Kirsten Staples and Stef Neri for coordinating the external contractors.
Flu Vaccinations
The Department of Health continues to encourage annual flu vaccination as an important way to protect individuals, families and the wider community from influenza. There have been some recent changes to make flu vaccinations more accessible for school-aged children:
- FluMist®, the needle-free nasal spray flu vaccine, is now available for children and adolescents aged 2–17 years, including students attending Catholic Education primary and secondary schools.
- Free influenza vaccinations are available for all Western Australians aged six months and older until 31 July 2026, providing an excellent opportunity for families who have not yet received their flu vaccination this year.
We encourage all families to take advantage of these options to help keep our school community healthy and well during the winter season.
WA Student Assistant Payment
The WA Student Assistance Payment helps parents and carers with the cost-of-living pressures associated with sending their children to school. Families can claim $150.00 per student from Kindy to Year 6. Eligible families can now access information on how to make a claim submission through the ServiceWA app - click on this link to access the app: ServiceWA app: WA Student Assistance Payment 2026
All Western Australian school students in Kindergarten to Year 12, with a valid WA student number (WASN), are eligible for this cost-of-living payment. Families of students who have not received a previous Semester Report (students in Kindergarten, and those new to the Liwara since this year) will have received a letter with their child's WASN this week. All other families from Pre Primary to Year 6 can access their WASN via SEQTA ENGAGE: https://liwara.engage.cewa.edu.au/
All claims must be received by Friday 25 September 2026.
Term Dates
Please refer to the school website for Term Dates, Pupil Free Days and the live School Calendar. This includes sacramental and key dates for the year.
ENROLMENTS FOR CHILDREN IN KINDY 2028 AND PRE KINDY 2027
We have a limited number of places available for 2026 across selected year levels. We encourage you to contact our Enrolment Officer as soon as possible to discuss the enrolment process, as we are currently meeting with both prospective and current families regarding 2027 Pre Kindy placements.
We are also in the final stages of our Kindy interviews for 2027. Applications for Kindy 2028 are now open for children born between 1 July 2023 and 30 June 2024, and we invite families to submit their application promptly.
Please note that Kindy runs on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, while Pre Kindy is held on Thursday and Friday.
Enrolment information and applications can be downloaded from our school website HERE or a paper copy can be collected from the school office.
I have attending the Catholic Primary Principal Association Conference over the last few days. This year, the CPPA are celebrating 50 years of providing a collaborative and supportive learning community for primary principals. Previous members were celebrated as the association recognised the work of those before us. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
Take care and God bless.

24:7 YOUTH MINISTRY
TUESDAY 21ST JULY
Last week, 24:7 Greenwood enjoyed an exciting Holiday Games Night filled with fun, fellowship and plenty of opportunities to connect. The evening began with card games and a game of football on the oval, giving everyone the chance to catch up and enjoy time together before the night's main activities.
The group then took part in a series of energetic games that encouraged teamwork, friendly competition and plenty of laughter. It was wonderful to see the young people enthusiastically participating, strengthening existing friendships and welcoming one another in a supportive and inclusive environment. The evening concluded with a shared dinner and further time for fellowship, providing a relaxed opportunity for meaningful conversations and community building.
On Saturday, 18 July, members of 24:7 Greenwood also joined with 24:7 Balcatta for a combined holiday social event at Laser Blaze Malaga. The afternoon was filled with excitement as the young people enjoyed several rounds of laser tag while building friendships across the two youth groups. It was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen existing connections, meet new people and enjoy a memorable holiday activity together. The event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and highlighted the strong sense of community that exists across our 24:7 Youth Ministry.
NEXT YOUTH GROUP
Our next youth group will be held on Sunday the 26th of July, where we will begin our new term series exploring the Nicene Creed. Throughout the term, we will unpack the rich truths contained within this foundational profession of faith and discover why it remains central to our identity as Catholics. To begin the series, Lucy will present our opening talk, introducing the history, meaning and significance of the Nicene Creed and inviting the young people to deepen their understanding of the faith they profess each Sunday. As always, the evening will include games, fellowship, shared food and opportunities to grow in faith and community.
God Bless, Jesse & Lucy
