Our Leadership Team

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents, Caregivers, Staff and Students,

The season of Advent begins on Sunday 28 November.  Advent is a reminder to all Christians of the sacred meaning of Christmas.  Despite all the preparations taking place around us all, for example,  buying presents and preparing for parties and gatherings, Advent reminds Christians to remember and prepare for the birth of Jesus.  Extending over the four Sundays before Christmas.  The word Advent comes from the Latin advenio, “to come to”, and refers to the coming of Christ.  The term ‘the coming’ includes three references:  first - to our celebration of Christ’s birth at Christmas; second – to the coming of Christ in our lives through grace and the Sacrament of Holy Communion; and finally, to His second coming at the end of time.  Our preparations, therefore, should have all three comings in mind.  We need to prepare our souls to receive Christ worthily.

Our Annual Community Meeting and election of School Advisory Council members and the P&F & SAC AGMs will be held on Monday 29 November at 6.30pm in the Ahern Centre.  I encourage all parents to attend as our School Advisory Council Chairperson, Mr Basil Manganaro will be sharing his Annual Report with the community and our Treasurer, Ms Clare Coombe will be presenting the financial overview of the year. I will also be sharing ‘The Year That Was’.

We met all our 2022 Pre Kindy and Kindy parents, over the last couple of Wednesdays to share information about all the exciting experiences the children will be involved in next year.   The Kindy parent session was a new model as the parents spent some time in the Ahern Centre and then went down to the Kindy area to mingle and get to know one another and the ELC environment. They were then invited back to the Ahern Centre which was set up for them to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a tasty bite to eat! It was lovely to see many familiar faces amongst all the first time Liwara families.

To all our current families, if your child is eligible to enter our Pre Kindy or Kindy program in 2022 and you have not yet contacted the school, please do this as soon as possible.  Karen Rosser, our Enrolment Officer, will be in touch with you to support you with the application process.

MAIN ROADS:  I hosted a meeting at the school this week with representative from Main Roads, Santelli Architects and Barnao Property Managers to discuss the progress with the proposed Principal Shared Pathway (PSP) and agree to a final design for the completion of the works for the bottom carpark that they need to address as part of the project.  Main Roads via H2H will probably be undertaking the works once an agreement of the design is finalised.  The architect presented the proposal for the redesign of the carpark to accommodate the bays we will be losing for the PSP and is waiting for the 100% Main Roads drawing so he can combine the two plans. Main Roads are going to send through a community update to me in the next week or so to share with our families.  As soon as I receive this I will share it with the school community.

On Thursday 25th November, all Year 6 students participated in the annual NIPSSA Interschool Summer Carnival in three sports – Beach Volleyball, Cricket and Tennis. All teams were well represented in their respective sports and, although a participatory carnival without team points, both of our tennis teams received accolades for their success in their respective groups at the end of the day. A big thanks to the teachers for their efforts to prepare the teams for the day and well done to all the competitors for the outstanding way they represented the school both on and off the field/courts.

From Year 4

Our Excursion to Constitutional House

On Wednesday November 3rd the Year 4 students visited Constitutional house in West Perth to learn all about the levels of government and how the Constitution of Western Australia came to be. We did a fun treasure hunt, learning about the history and collected puzzle pieces along to way to win a prize. Then, we had a wonderful session with the very knowledgeable , Remi, about the work of local governments. We played lots of games and even got to suggest ways the local council could work better for us! When we got back to class we wrote about what we had learned

treasure hunt
fish sorting

Then, we went to nearby Kings Park for lunch and a play. We played lots of fun games and even got everyone in year 4 on the giant web.

Charli- “I had lots of fun learning about the different types of government”

Jarvis- “ I really enjoyed learning about the history of the government and going to King’s Park”

Jai- “I liked the treasure hunt where we put together the puzzle pieces. I also enjoyed going to Kings Park”

Canteen News

We received these lovely carrots from the school gardeners last week, thank you for bringing your lovely produce into the canteen for us.

As there are now only eight more days of the school canteen operating, we will begin to run out of certain menu items for this year.   This is so we can close down our freezers and canteen for the holidays.   We apologise in advance if your favourites are not available but assure you they will be back next year.

We are planning a few Christmas specials in the last few weeks so bring your spare change and see what surprises we have on offer.

We have had quite a few volunteers not turning up on their rostered days, please take a note of the day that you are rostered on.  All help is very much appreciated at this time of year.

We are still needing two volunteers to help on Friday 10th December, being the last day of term and will need at least one of these volunteers to be available for the majority of the day as this day is particularly busy.    Thank you in advance and also for supporting us throughout the year either by volunteering or purchasing our lunch and recess items.   We certainly have a wonderful group of helpers at Liwara.

Have a safe and wonderful holiday,

Deb & Cathy
