Staff profile. (1)

National Reconciliation Week—27 May to 3 June—is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.” is a challenge to all Australians— individuals, families, communities, organisations and government—to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As I write this newsletter, I am eternally grateful for the amazing group of staff and students we have at Liwara, who are keeping things ticking along regardless!  Our school is being impacted in a large way with both staff and students being infected with COVID-19 and therefore needing to stay away from school.  Please be patient as we navigate through this challenging time and do your part by keeping your child home if they have symptoms.  At this stage we have been able to weather the storm and cover all classes with relief staff, much to the credit of our hardworking Assistant Principals and the group of staff who have managed to keep COVID free.

MOTHER’S DAY BOHO PICNIC  I would like to congratulate our amazing P&F for the enormous commitment of their time, talents and energy by celebrating our mothers of the Liwara CPS community with the beautiful afternoon spent on the school oval in the gorgeous sunshine.  It was testament to the organisers for their initiative and creativity in trying something different this year!  I was absolutely amazed by the photos that were shared on the P&F Facebook page showing a spectacular backdrop, an unbelievable grazing table and the stunning picnic setting… such a spectacular feast for the eyes as well! A huge congratulations to Rebecca Marlow and her team - Rosa Pavlovich for her generous donations of prizes and Prosecco; Justine Germano and Leo Condelli for the mouth-watering grazing table; Sarah Rogers for her support and donation of  items; Maree Mercer for her donations and organising of the prizes; Ali Moala for her generous donation of  the stunning backdrop; the many volunteers who assisted with the set up and set down and to Elise Richardson for these stunning photos for us all to enjoy!  It all looked absolutely amazing and I know there were many extremely happy and contented mums on the oval on Saturday.  Well done P&F!

YEAR THREE ASSEMBLY Next Friday, 3 June, we welcome our Year 3 families to our first class performance assembly for Term 2 and we were really excited to have our wonderful families back in the audience.  Remember we are holding all our whole school events in the church till further notice.

STAFFING - A Fond Farewell I wish to inform the community that Mrs Gaye Margetic will be leaving the Liwara staff team at the end of this term.  After almost seven years of service to Liwara she has made the decision to retire and spend more time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.  Mrs M, as she is affectionally referred to by our students, began at Liwara in 2015 as our OSHC Manager and then moved into the library as our Library Education Officer and website and social media coordinator, in 2018. Gaye has generously shared her love and appreciation of literature with our students and I thank her for her enthusiasm, energy and for her selfless giving of her time and talents.  On behalf of the Liwara school community I  wish her the best of health, happiness and many more special times with her family.  She will be sadly missed and Liwara will be losing a very important individual who has a long history with the school as her children and her grandchildren have attended Liwara.

WA GOVERNMENT FREE RATS Thank you to all our families who have collected their student allocation of free RATs.  We still have quite a few left to be issued so please come along to the office during school hours to collect your boxes.  Unfortunately, we are not able to issue them to children. Thank you for your cooperation.

PLAYGROUND – Adventure +  the company who are constructing the new playground have assured me that the structure will be completed by Wednesday of next week and Adam will be coordinating the delivery and installation of the whitewashed sand to be placed under and around the structure by Friday.  How exciting for our children to have the new playground in and ready by the end of next week so they have a fun filled playground with lots of sand to get creative with their imaginary play!

KINDY 2023/2024 AND PRE KINDY 2023 If you have a child who is due to start Kindy in 2023, I urge you to contact our enrolment officer, Karen Rosser, to discuss the enrolment process as the places are filling steadily. I am currently meeting with future and current parents for our Kindy 2023/2024 & Pre Kindy 2023 interviews.

Wishing you God’s blessings and a wonderful weekend!

MUSIC

It’s an exciting time in Music in Term 2. We have commenced Rock band for our Year 6’s, Choir for Year 3 to 6 and Hymn Singing for Pre-Primary to Year 6. Our one-on-one musical instrument tuition has continued, delivered by our exceptional instrumental program, with focus on preparation for performances at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival later in the year and a Music Performance Assembly on Friday June 17th.

Congratulations to our 2022-year 6 Rock band members:

Stephanie, Ava-lee, Max, Connor, Niamh, Thomas, Amber, Kobe, Ava and White.

Our first two Rock band rehearsals went very smoothly with the aim of performing at upcoming school events. The first two choir meetings were a great opportunity to sing through hymns and songs for the whole school assembly and hymn singing with a great turnout of 30+ students from Years 3-6. Choir runs every Friday morning from 8am sharp and all students from Year 3 – 6 are encouraged and welcome to participate.

This term, Kindy and Pre Primary are focusing on responding and creating ideas from music, Year 1 and Year 2 are composing and performing on percussion instruments, Year 3 will be starting recorder, Year 4 will continue with ukulele and Year 5 and Year 6 will continue with guitar.

Library

National Simultaneous Storytime was held on Wednesday May 25.

The aim of NSS is to:

  • promote the value of reading and literacy,
  • promote the value and fun of books,
  • promote an Australian writer and publisher,
  • promote storytime activities in libraries and communities around the country.

In keeping with these aims a 'Liwara Staff Family Tree' has been created in the library.  The children, staff and many parents have enjoyed looking at the display and are keen to match staff members to their baby photos. There are MANY surprises so feel free to pop in and have some fun trying to match us up!
