A Prayer for the Long Weekend

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for the gift of this long weekend —
a time to pause, to rest, and to be renewed in Your love.

Bless our families, friends, and all those we will meet.

Keep us safe in our travels, joyful in our gatherings,

and mindful of those who may be lonely or in need.

May this time be filled with peace,

our hearts lifted in gratitude for Your blessings,

and our minds refreshed for the days ahead.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Caregivers

Catholic Identity

Staff Retreat

Last week, our staff gathered at the Sisters of St John’s Retreat Centre in Shoalwater. Mario Borg, from 24/7 and our parish led an informative day on the meaning of the Mass. We also had a session on reflective prayer.

Parish Youth Group

Nurturing a connection with our parish is an important goal for us. Lucy Harris from our parish youth group visited to discuss our Year 6 students attending the parish youth group. The youth group runs every Sunday from 6.30-8.30pm for Year 6 to Year 12 students. Year 6 families, please see the flyer on SeeSaw for specific information.

Sacrament of Eucharist

Thank-you to all the Year 4 students and their families who attended the Commitment Mass for First Holy Communion. The parent-child workshop is on this Thursday 28th May at 5pm, at the parish centre. We look forward to seeing all the Year 4 candidates and their parents work together to deepen their understanding of the Sacrament of Eucharist.

Education Pillar

Year 6 Winter Lightning Carnival

Our Year 5 and 6 students attended Kingsway Reserve to participate in a variety of winter interschool team sports, with some beautiful winter weather. There were many opportunities for encouraging each other, persistence whilst demonstrating teamwork and sportspersonship.

National Simultaneous Storytime

National Simultaneous Storytime took place on Wednesday.  Millions of Australians participate by reading the same book at the same time. The 2026 selected book is Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller, written by Adam Jackson and Adrian Lloyd and illustrated by Jake Minton. Thank-you to Sam Clarke for coordinating our participation, activities and the library display. Drop in to have a look.

RU Legal Incursion

Our Year 5 and 6 students participated in a RU Legal incursion, presented by Legal Aid. Topics covered the legal process, police supporting the community to be safe and cyberbullying. Students had the opportunity to ask questions. A parent session followed after school. Thank-you to the parents who attended; they had the opportunity to engage with the content presented during the incursion and ask questions to be able to facilitate further conversations with their children.

Community Pillar

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week takes place every year between May 27 and June 3 and this year’s theme is ‘All In’.  These dates commemorate two important events in the journey of reconciliation: the 1967 referendum and the High Court’s Mabo decision. This year’s theme, ‘All In’, is a call for all Australians to commit to reconciliation every single day. Reconciliation requires all of us to do our part, every day. Activities were available for students to participate in during the week.

Fair Game – Inspiring Healthy Communities

Many thanks to the Liwara community for donating 275 items of sporting equipment. Fair Game has now delivered this equipment to families with children who might otherwise be unable to participate in club sport. Thank-you to Ciaran Sanders for coordinating the donation drive for this fabulous cause.

Stewardship Pillar

Bunnings Sensory Garden Renovation

We extend our sincere thanks to Bunnings Balcatta for their generous donation of plants that have helped bring our Sensory Garden to life. We are especially grateful to Kirsten, who coordinated this wonderful partnership, and to Doug, who spent time with our Year Six Sustainability Leaders, guiding them through the planting process. This project has been a meaningful way for our students to live out the message of Laudato Si’, deepening their understanding of caring for our common home while contributing to a space that will support wellbeing and connection with nature for years to come. Many thanks to Pia Tilka for organising this great initiative. We look forward to seeing the new plants grow and fill the sensory garden.

Well-being: Flourish and Grow

Last week during the professional development days, the CEWA Wellbeing team worked with our staff to lead an inquiry based on the CEWA Wellbeing Framework and the Liwara values of Respect, Trust, Faith and Mercy.

KINDY CLASS NEWS

This term in Kindy has been full of excitement as we explored the classic story The Three Little Pigs! The children arrived one morning to discover a mysterious “crime scene” outside the classroom, with the pigs’ houses completely demolished… what could have happened? This engaging hook sparked curiosity and imaginative thinking as we began our Talk for Writing focus on this popular story.

Can you build a house strong enough to stop the Big Bad Wolf? The children have been busy investigating which materials are strong enough to build a house that can withstand the wolf. Through hands-on building and testing, they shared wonderful ideas and discoveries about strength and stability.

We have been having fun exploring numbers through games and engaging sensory trays. The children have been practising ordering numbers by hanging them on a “washing line” and discussing what comes before and after each number. This has led to lots of great thinking and problem-solving as we explore patterns in our counting. The children were able to share their thinking through questioning such as, “I wonder what number is missing from our washing line?” and “I wonder which number can help me find out the answer?”

We also loved celebrating our Kindy mums with a special pamper session. There were hand massages, nail painting, bracelet making, biscuit decorating, and a fun photo booth to capture all the smiles, a truly special time together.

In Religious Education, we learnt about the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. The children explored wonder questions such as, “I wonder if Jesus had to help Mary and Joseph at home?” and “I wonder what Jesus liked to do with his family?” They also created beautiful family portraits to share the love and uniqueness of their own families.

24:7 YOUTH MINISTRY

TUESDAY 26TH MAY

Last week at 24:7 Greenwood, the young people enjoyed a wonderful evening of games, fellowship, and faith formation. The night began with a relaxed period of social connection, giving everyone the opportunity to spend time together through conversation and card games. This provided a welcoming atmosphere and helped strengthen friendships within the group before the evening’s activities officially commenced.

The first game of the night was Hide and Seek Pictionary, a creative and energetic activity that encouraged teamwork, communication, and plenty of laughter. This was followed by a lively game of Musical Chairs, which brought a high level of excitement and friendly competition as participants eagerly joined in. The games created an enjoyable and engaging environment that kept the energy high throughout the evening.

The faith formation component of the night was led by one of our volunteer leaders, Marianna, who shared a reflection on the life of Saint Philip Neri and the Fruit of Joy. Marianna explored how St Philip Neri remained joyful and faithful even during the challenges and difficulties he encountered throughout his life. She highlighted the way his deep trust in God enabled him to maintain a spirit of joy that positively impacted those around him. The young people were encouraged to reflect on how they, too, can find joy in their daily lives, recognising God’s presence in both the ordinary moments and the challenges they face. The talk provided an inspiring reminder that true Christian joy is rooted not simply in circumstances, but in a relationship with God.

The evening was a valuable opportunity for the young people to grow in faith, strengthen friendships, and learn from the example of one of the Church’s great saints.

NEXT YOUTH GROUP

At the next youth group gathering, one of our leaders will present a formation session on Saint Maximilian Kolbe and the Fruit of Love. Through exploring the life and witness of this remarkable saint, the young people will learn how St Maximilian Kolbe demonstrated extraordinary love, sacrifice, and selflessness in service of others. The session will examine how his example continues to inspire Christians today and will encourage young people to consider practical ways they can live out the virtue of love in their own relationships, communities, and daily lives. Alongside the faith formation content, the evening will continue to provide opportunities for fun, fellowship, and meaningful connection among attendees.

God Bless, Jesse & Lucy
