A Prayer for School Volunteers
Heavenly Father, I lift up every volunteer before You today. Thank-you for these individuals who give freely of their time and talents to help our school. Strengthen their hearts and bodies, renew their energy when they feel weary and surround them with Your peace.
Lord, guide their hands and their minds to act with wisdom and compassion and let their service reflect Your love in every small and great task. Please lead them to opportunities that bless our students and teachers and let them always shine Your light through their work.
Protect them and their families and grant them the grace to grow in holiness through their service. May they not become weary in doing good, knowing that their work makes a lasting difference. In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Caregivers
National Volunteer Week 2026 in Australia runs from 18–24 May 2026, celebrating the theme "Your Year to Volunteer". This annual event recognises the millions of volunteers nationwide, highlighting the crucial role of volunteers in fostering sustainable, resilient communities. "Your Year to Volunteer" encourages Australians to find meaningful, flexible ways to give back. It also serves as a national thank-you to volunteers while encouraging new people to connect, find purpose and make a difference (Volunteering Australia).
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our P and F Volunteers and our parents who volunteer for school and class events. The gift of their time and talent helps to make Liwara’s community one of strength and collaboration. We are currently looking for volunteers to help in the school canteen on Fridays for about 2 hours. If you are available to do a rotational roster, please contact the office or drop in to the canteen.

Catholic Identity
Family Mass
Our Term 2 Family Mass at the parish was celebrated together earlier this term. Thank-you to Father Elver for leading Mass, Angela Leddin and Stefanie Neri for preparing the Mass and John Fernandes for leading the choir.
Sacrament of Eucharist
Our Year 4 students will commence their faith journey to receive their First Holy Communion this weekend. Year Four candidates can attend any of the weekend Masses to register for their Commitment Mass.
Education Pillar
School Value of Trust
It has been a busy start to Term Two. In addition to our class-based learning programs, students are participating in weekly dance lessons and have focused on our school value of Trust. Thank-you to the Year Six Faith Ministry for creating the Faith posters that you can see around the school.
Cross Country and Running Club
Students are currently participating in Cross-country runs during their sport sessions. We are also getting record numbers of laps completed during Running Club on these beautiful spring mornings.
Community Pillar
Muffins with Mum
We celebrated our mums and grandmothers last week. The oval was alive with families walking together whilst enjoying a muffin. Thank-you to Stefanie Neri for leading the event and the team of staff who assisted with the preparation both before and after school. I hope all mothers and grandmothers had a wonderful Mothers’ Day last Sunday.
P and F Colour Run
Today, the P and F held the Colour Run; an engaging and energetic event for our students. Thank-you to Nicholas, Sally and Kelly who organised the event and the band of parent volunteers who helped on the day. Thank-you to the local business sponsors:
- Jessica Stojkovski, Member for Kingsley - Sponsor for PINK
- Flow Space, North Beach - Sponsor for BLUE
- Beyond Tools, Malaga - Sponsor for GREEN
- Paul Lambe Woodworking - Sponsor for ORANGE
and to all families who sponsored their children. The P and F will put all funds raised to a good cause for our school.
Stewardship Pillar
Staffing News
Tracy Bryan has been appointed to cover Jane Evan’s leave. Tracy comes with a wealth of Social Worker experience in both CEWA schools and government support agencies. We look forward to welcoming Tracy to Liwara next week.
Angela Leddin is currently on extended leave. Remy McGavigan is joining the leadership team as a middle leader two days per week. Congratulations to Remy for stepping up to this role.
Winter Uniform
Students are now wearing full winter uniform. High standards of uniform presentation reflect the pride we take in our school and the image we uphold. Clear guidelines for uniform and grooming are available on our school website. These expectations are not optional; they are an important part of our school ethos. Staff will be following up on uniform expectations to ensure Liwara students are united in wearing their uniforms with pride.
Please take particular note of the following uniform guidelines:
- If hair is longer than the bottom of the collar, it must be completely tied back with an elastic band, in school colours.
- Children’s haircuts need to be conservative and appropriate to uniform expectations. (i.e. – no extreme hairstyles and no hair colour)
- The only jewellery permitted is a watch, one pair of plain studs or small sleepers (one in each ear) and one fine neck chain (a Christian symbol may be added to the chain – optional). No bracelets or hair ties around wrists.
- Black formal school shoes must be worn with the formal winter uniform (not black running shoes).
We appreciate your support in upholding the standards outlined on our website - Click here for link to website
Before School Supervision
Thank-you to all the parents that are ensuring their children are not dropped off until 8.15am when supervision commences. There has been a noticeable reduction in students arriving early.
School officially begins at 8.40am; we are required to provide duty of care 15 minutes beforehand. To support families, we provide earlier duty of care with a staff member rostered in the undercover area from 8.15am. Recently, some students have been arriving earlier than 8.15am, when no supervision is available unless students are booked into the Liwara Out of Hours School Care (OSHC). Staff will send students arriving before 8.15am to the office and parents will be contacted. Thank you for working with us to ensure all students arrive safely and are appropriately supervised before school.
Term Dates
Please refer to the school website for Term Dates, Pupil Free Days and the live School Calendar. This includes sacramental and key dates for the year.

24:7 YOUTH MINISTRY
TUESDAY 12TH MAY
Last week at 24:7 Greenwood, the young people gathered for a special Mother’s Day-themed evening filled with fellowship, fun, and meaningful faith formation. The night began in a warm and welcoming atmosphere as participants enjoyed tea, coffee, cakes, and a variety of card games together. This relaxed beginning provided an excellent opportunity for conversation, connection, and community-building among the young people before the official program commenced.
The first activity of the evening was “Photo Bingo,” which encouraged teamwork, interaction, and plenty of laughter as the young people worked together to complete the challenge. This was followed by a game titled “Name the Famous Maternal Figure,” which tested participants’ knowledge while continuing the light-hearted and engaging atmosphere of the evening.
The night then transitioned into the main formation component, with a talk delivered by Lucy. Continuing the term theme, Lucy reflected on the life and witness of Monica and explored how St Monica serves as a powerful example of living out the Fruit of Patience. Through sharing aspects of St Monica’s life, particularly her perseverance in prayer, steadfast faith, and trust in God through difficult circumstances, the young people were encouraged to reflect on the importance of patience, persistence, and faithfulness within their own lives. Lucy highlighted how St Monica’s unwavering commitment to prayer and trust in God ultimately became a witness of hope and perseverance for the Church and for families today.
The evening concluded in a joyful and reflective atmosphere, with the young people leaving encouraged by St Monica’s example and challenged to continue growing in patience and trust in God throughout their daily lives.
NEXT YOUTH GROUP
The next Youth Group gathering will take place next week with a special “MasterChef Night,” where the young people will have the opportunity to create their own culinary masterpieces in a fun and interactive environment. Alongside the activities, the group will continue exploring the term theme through a guest speaker presentation focused on Joseph and how his life demonstrates the Fruit of Goodness. The evening promises to be another engaging opportunity for fellowship, faith formation, and community.
God Bless, Jesse & Lucy
