Prayer Father's Day
On this Father’s Day, let us ask St Joseph for his intercession on behalf of all dads and that his holy example continue to be an inspiration to all fathers, using a beautiful prayer from the Carmelite Sisters:
Oh, St Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires.
Oh, St Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So that, having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most Loving of Fathers.
Oh, St Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss his fine head for me and ask him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath.
St Joseph, Patron of departed souls, pray for me.
Amen

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Caregivers
As I write to you from Cairns, where I’m attending the Australian Catholic Education Conference 2025 alongside delegates from across Australia and beyond, I’m reminded of the strength and spirit of our Catholic education community. It’s been inspiring to engage in conversations about faith, leadership, and innovation, and I look forward to bringing back ideas that will continue to enrich our beautiful school.
With the theme ‘Hope, Anchored in Faith’, the conference is focussing on the strategic vision and mission of Catholic education across three key areas – Faith, Excellence and Access. They are featuring a broad range of speakers, presentations and workshops focused on Catholic identity, mission and formation; learning and teaching; leadership and governance; parent engagement; parish and community engagement; resourcing and infrastructure; advocacy and marketing; and more.
Back at Liwara, it’s been a joy to see our students thriving in so many areas—from spiritual growth and sporting achievements to musical performances and community celebrations. I’m incredibly proud of the way our staff, students, and families come together to create such a vibrant and supportive environment.
As Term 3 continues to unfold, our school has been buzzing with activity, joy, and meaningful moments that reflect the heart of our Liwara community.
Year 6 Confirmation Retreat
Next Tuesday, our Year 6 students will be engaged in a deeply enriching Confirmation Retreat. Guided by faith and reflection, the day will offer students a chance to explore the significance of the Sacrament of Confirmation, deepen their relationship with God, and bond with their peers in a spirit of prayer and unity. We are proud of the reverence and maturity we know they will display throughout the retreat. We are so fortunate to have our 24/7 Youth Group facilitating this retreat once again.
Assistant Principal’s Conference
Our Assistant Principals will be attending the Catholic Assistant Principal’s Conference next week, where innovative ideas and collaborative strategies will be shared to enhance learning and wellbeing across Catholic schools. It will be a valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues and bring fresh inspiration back to Liwara.
Athletics – Jumps & Throws
Already the energy is electric as our students showcase their athletic talents in the ‘Jumps and Throws’ events. From soaring long jumps to powerful shot puts and Turbo Javelin, every participant will be giving their best effort. Congratulations, in advance, to all students for their sportsmanship and determination!
2025 Book Week Parade
On Tuesday, 19 August staff and students gathered in the hall for the annual Book Week Parade, with students eager to display their costumes and once again the staff outdid themselves by reinacting the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle that tells the story of a caterpillar's transformation into a butterfly.
Mr Sanders (PE Teacher) starred as the caterpillar who hatched from an egg and ate everything for a whole week and then builds a cocoon around himself and emerges from the cocoon as a beautiful butterfly which Mrs Shilkin (Kindy Red) played the part with grace and style.

One Big Voice Concert
Next Friday, our choir will join over 8,000 children from 165 primary schools when they come together to form Australia’s largest and most inclusive children’s choir. The numbers cover two concerts where all children shine brightly at the One Big Voice concerts, joining voices with thousands of students from across Perth. Months of practice will culminate in a roof-raising climax of joyous song and celebration, as the entire floor of the venue transforms into centre-stage! Built on a 23 year tradition the One Big Voice Festival stands as a beacon of positivity for children as they get the chance to sing uplifting, life affirming songs in an experience neither they nor the audience will ever forget! A huge thank you to Ms Natalie Mandry who is preparing them for their performance which will be a beautiful celebration of unity and music, and we commend them for their dedication and enthusiasm during rehearsals and on the big stage. I look forward to enjoying the event with many of our Liwara families.
Celebrating Our Students
Across all year levels, our students continue to impress us with their creativity, kindness, and commitment to learning. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or performing on stage, their efforts and achievements are a testament to the vibrant spirit of Liwara.

CLASS NEWS
NEWS FROM YEAR 4
Our Year 4 students have been working incredibly hard on their latest writing project, focusing on the important issue of plastic pollution. They have been busy researching the causes and impacts of this problem, with a particular focus on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch – a huge area of floating rubbish in our ocean! Students were amazed and shocked to learn about the size of this environmental issue and the effect it has on marine life and ecosystems. Using their research, they have been drafting and publishing detailed information reports that explain what plastic pollution is, how the Great Garbage Patch was formed, and the ways we can all work together to reduce waste and protect our planet.

GREEN FOOTPRINTS

CHILDREN'S LITURGY VOLUNTEERS - PARENT HELPERS NEEDED
We're seeking parent volunteers to join our All Saints Greenwood parish children’s liturgy team! We need extra helpers to support our group leaders in supervising young children during the Sunday 9:30am Mass children’s liturgy sessions. Typically, we ask for a commitment of just one Sunday per term. Volunteers will need to secure a Working With Children check, and we’re happy to assist you with the process. If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to have you—please text Bianca at 0418 986 893 to sign up!
PARISH YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS
TUESDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER
Last week at 24:7 Greenwood, we enjoyed another awesome night of games, fun, and faith-filled content. We began with board and card games before moving into our main activities for the evening. Our first game, Bopper, brought lots of energy and laughter, followed by a competitive round of Wall Tag.
We were especially blessed to welcome guest speaker Ruby Soh, who led us in exploring the theme Shelter the Homeless. Ruby shared her personal experiences of serving on mission trips with Buckets For Jesus, where she was involved in building houses for the homeless in different communities. Her stories, photos, and videos really brought the topic to life and inspired us all.
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday 26th August, our Youth Ministers and leaders had the privilege of facilitating the Confirmation retreat for the Year 6 students at Liwara Catholic Primary School. We then joined the parish at the 6:00pm Mass on Saturday, where many of the students — including two of our own youth — received the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was such a special and joy-filled occasion to celebrate with them.
NEXT YOUTH GROUP
This Sunday the 7th of September we’ll be holding a Confirmation Party to celebrate with the newly confirmed Year 6 students! Alongside the celebration, we’ll continue our term theme on the Corporal Works of Mercy, focusing on Visit the Imprisoned. Our Youth Minister, Jesse, will be sharing about his own experiences and how we, too, can live out this call in our daily lives. It’s going to be a meaningful night!
God bless,
Jesse and Lucy
