Our Leadership Team

From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Year Six Camp: The Year Six students and staff were very excited as they left for camp on Tuesday morning for 3 whole days and nights!   We know that they will have a fabulous time, as they raft, tower climb, canoe, explore and challenge themselves and each other, developing problem solving and leadership skills. Mr John Dols, Mrs Jacqui Chivell, Ms Renee Haynes and Mr Kyle Perkins accompanied the group to give their valuable support to the class teachers.  I spent the day there with them on Wednesday and Ms Angela Leddin went up on Thursday.  A special note of thanks to Mr Perkins who generously gave up his time to be there to cater for any unexpected medical needs of our students.

Liwara Facebook Page: If you aren’t yet following our Liwara Facebook page, please do.  The more ‘likes’ the greater our reach to the wider community, showcasing and advertising our wonderful school and sharing the exciting experiences of our students.  Please share this page with your family members!  It’s a great way to keep grandparents and extended family members up to date with what is happening at Liwara.  Link provided:  LiwaraCPS Facebook Page

Curriculum & Communications: Each year we strive to ensure that all students from Pre Primary have as many uninterrupted blocks as possible of English and Mathematics time, to ensure that teaching and learning flow is maximised every week.  Please look out for the information class teachers provide you via Seesaw about your children’s learning.

Parish Help Needed Our All Saints Parish are looking for volunteers to join their cleaning crew! As a volunteer, you will be given a cleaning task that will take you 30-60 mins and you will be on roster once every 7 weeks. You can clean at a time that suits you best.  Please see the full message in our Parish Section below.

Sacramental Commitment & Family Mass:  As a community, we pray for all our students who will be preparing to receive the sacrament of First Communion for the first time later this term. Families are invited to attend the First Communion Commitment Mass on either Saturday 15 May or Sunday 16 May which is also our first Family Mass for the year. I look forward to seeing many of you there to enjoy our beautiful choir who as always will enhance the celebration!

Supervision of Students: Our duty of care begins at 8.20am and concludes at 3.20pm each day.  We ask parents to make use of our wonderful Outside School Hours Care service if you require assistance earlier or later in the day.  Some of our students who are not attending choir, instrumental lessons or running club, are arriving at school extremely early in the mornings.  Our duty of care does not commence until our gates open, and students enter the school grounds at 8.20am.  If your child walks or rides their bike to school, please speak to them about what time they should be leaving home to ensure that they don’t arrive at school too early, especially with the wet weather just around the corner.

KINDY & PRE KINDY 2022/2023  I have begun the Kindy 2022 interview process and I urge you to contact the office if you have a child who is eligible to attend Kindy in 2022/23  and who has not yet been enrolled.  The numbers are filling so it is imperative you contact the office, immediately, if you have not enrolled your child for Kindy 2022.  We have also been calling for Pre Kindy 2022 enrolments so if you have a child who will be eligible for Pre Kindy 2022 contact Karen Rosser, our Enrolment Officer.

Wishing you God’s blessings

Family Mass Term 2

With Covid capacity restrictions loosening, we are now able to conduct our Liwara Family Masses again. The initially scheduled Mass for 9th May this term has been re-scheduled to 9.30am May 16th to avoid a clash with family Mothers’ Day activities and a significant Parish event. We look forward to seeing you at this special Mass.

First Eucharist Commitment Masses and Workshops

First Eucharist Commitment Masses will be held this weekend. Parents are asked to attend one of the Parish masses with their child. The Parent/Child Workshops will be held on Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th May commencing at 6pm. Please attend either session. Parent/s and child are to attend the workshop.

NAPLAN Testing

Year 3 and Year 5 students will be sitting to do the NAPLAN testing over the course of next week. We wish them all the very best in their endeavours in this area.

Liwara Yearbook

With the introduction of Seesaw for the purpose of sharing samples of children’s work and experiences, along with the increase in communication technology used within the classrooms, over the last eighteen months, we have decided to make a change and move away from parents having to pay for both the school photos and a Yearbook each year.  After seven years, we have made the decision to use our digital platform, Seesaw, to give parents and caregivers the option of downloading images and pieces of work from Seesaw to have as a keepsake or share with family members across the seas of across our vast continent.

We will continue to team with MSP Photography for the students’ individual, family and class photos so you will still have the wonderful annual school photographs of your children to share with extended family members.

MSP Photography, who we have been working with over the years to produce the Yearbook will continue to produce the Year 6 Graduation Booklet, put together by our Year 6 parents, as a graduation gift for the Year Six students.  You would have also noticed the Yearbook Levy was removed from the 2021 School Fees.

Project Compassion

Thank you to all those generous families who contributed to Caritas’s Project Compassion. Along with the funds raised in the Pre-loved book sale, your donations will be delivered to Caritas to be used to assist those in need.

Vinnies Winter Appeal

We are seeking help from the Liwara community in donating items such as blankets, doonas, sleeping bags, warm clothing (in good condition) to help with the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.

Donations can be given to Alana Roscoe (0404 066 181) or Sarah Musca (0458 572 973) on the school oval at drop off / pick up on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday. All donations will be sorted and boxed and delivered on the school’s behalf to St Vincent de Paul on 30th June, 2021.

We thank you for your support in this very worthy cause.

OUR CLASSROOM NEWS

From Year 2

We have been learning about ways to show love – just as Jesus did.

We combined our classes together again to brainstorm ways that we show love to our families, our friends and to even people we don’t know in the community.

These are some of the things we came up with:

We can show love to our families by hugging, kissing, caring and looking out for each other.

We can show love to our friends by listening, taking turns and sharing.

We can show love to people in the community by being polite and courteous.

How We Show Love

Sustainability@Liwara

Sustainability@Liwara

Even though our Year 6 Green Team members have been on their Year 6 camp this week, it has still been a great fortnight for sustainability. The rain has been a welcome sight. It has watered our seedlings which we look forward to planting next week. The lettuce plants are growing beautifully and we have been able to harvest a weekly bag of freshly picked lettuce leaves to supplement the school canteen’s supply.

As you can see in the photos below, our peas seedlings are sprouting and beginning to climb. Our broccoli and beetroot are also enjoying the extra rain. We look forward to planting some peas in our junior primary planters next week.  The silverbeet plants in the western planter are now beginning to grow more quickly given the Green Team’s recent fertilising.

 Handy Hints for Sustainability

This week’s handy hint is “Use home appliances efficiently”.

An effective way to save on your power bill is to use home appliances efficiently. Follow the link below to read about tips to use clothes dryers, computers, cooking appliances, cooling, dishwashes, fridges and freezers, heating, lighting, pool heating and pumps, TVs, washing machines and water heating more efficiently.

Thank you for your continued caring, patience and support.

Canteen

CANTEEN NEWS

Some exciting news to share as the sales of our “green” items on our menu has increased.  Since April 90% of our menu sales are "green' which is great for our Starcap Assessment.  This was achieved by increasing the 'green' menu item options and slightly reducing the number of 'amber' menu item options available for purchase.

The canteen made Macaroni Cheese and Spaghetti Bolognaise are now added as daily menu items and the new Cheese & Vegemite Scrolls available at recess have also been very popular.

These items are all made by us, so we would like to thank the parents that have volunteered their time and added their names to our roster. Your help is certainly appreciated.   We look forward to seeing you on your rostered days.

Wow! The school gardeners are doing a fantastic job, supplying us with plenty of lettuce. Thank you.

A quick reminder that if your frozen item is not collected on the day, all is not lost.  We will keep the names at the canteen for collection.

We are aiming to add some different products on as specials over the coming winter terms.

The items will be added to the ordering system when they become available, and will be left on until stocks last.

If any information needs to be shared regarding ordering or supply of products available, it will be listed under the news section on Quickcliq also.
