Prayer to Mary MacKillop
Ever generous God,
You inspired Saint Mary MacKillop
To live her life faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ,
and constant in bringing hope and encouragement
to those who were disheartened, lonely or needy.
With confidence in your generous providence
and through the intercession of Saint Mary MacKillop
We ask that you grant our request………..
We ask that our faith and hope be fired afresh by the Holy Spirit
so that we too, like Mary MacKillop,
may live with courage, trust and openness.
Ever generous God hear our prayer.
We ask this through Jesus Christ.
Amen

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents and Caregivers
We are already three weeks into Term 3, and what a vibrant few weeks it’s been! Our school has been buzzing with learning, celebration, and community spirit.
Parent’s Social Night – Let’s Make It a Night to Remember!
Our P&F have been working extremely hard with the planning for the upcoming Parent’s Social Night. This event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow parents, enjoy a relaxed evening, and support our school community. If you haven’t yet purchased your tickets, we warmly encourage you to do so – bring a friend, book a table, and let’s make it a night to remember! Every ticket sold helps us continue building a strong and supportive Liwara family and your children will benefit from the funds raised at this social event.

Celebrating Mary MacKillop Feast Day
On Friday, 8 August we celebrate the Feast Day of St Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first saint. Her legacy of compassion and service continues to inspire our students and staff. Mary MacKillop was an ordinary woman with an extraordinary dream and a big heart. Her dream was to give the poorest families, and most neglected children access to education and safe shelter by opening schools. With what little resources they had, Mary and Father Tenison Woods turned an old stable into a school in Penola, South Australia. In 1866 Mary and Father Tenison worked together to set up the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart (the Josephites). This was the first religious order to be founded by an Australian.
Mary MacKillop was canonised on 17th October 2010 at Saint Peter’s Basilica, Rome. She is Australia’s only saint. Today, over 10 years on from the recognition of Mary MacKillop’s holy work, we continue to find hope in her values, character, and actions as a remarkably strong female leader.
Year 5 Performance Assembly
Our Year 5 students have been busy preparing for their assembly this afternoon. We are looking forward to being dazzled with their creativity and confidence during their Performance Assembly with their talents definitely shining through.
Science Week Sparks Curiosity
Look out for Science Week which begins on Monday, 11 August which will be a blast! Students across all year levels will be exploring experiments, engaging in hands-on activities, and discovering the wonders of the world around them. A big thank you to Mrs Pia Tilka, our Science teacher, for making science come alive in such exciting ways. The theme this year is “Decoding the Universe” which will spark curiosity, build wonders and help students make sense of the amazing world around them, from the tiniest particles to the vastness of space.
In primary school, Science Week is about more than experiments, it's about nurturing inquiry, creativity, and problem-solving in ways that are fun and accessible for all learners. Through hands-on activities, investigations, and themed lessons, we’ll show our students that science is everywhere and that their questions matter.
Mrs Tilka will make sure it is a week to remember, where we inspire our young learners to explore, wonder, and decode the universe together!
Heads, Hearts & Hands STEM Project Showcase
Next week Mrs Tilka will be accompanying twelve of our students to the 2025 STEM Showcase, ‘Heads, Hearts and Hands’, at Chisholm Catholic College. It is an opportunity for primary and secondary student to share and articulate their STEM processes and projects with peers and staff across CEWA schools. The event is a celebration and sharing of STEM across the Catholic Education sector and we expect the students to bring back fresh ideas and innovative approaches to enhance our teaching of science, technology, engineering, and maths. We’re excited to see some of these ideas come to life in our classrooms!
Year 4 Fremantle Prison Excursion
Our Year 4 students will be stepping back in time during their excursion to Fremantle Prison next week, learning about WA’s colonial history and life behind bars. It will be a fascinating and eye-opening experience that will spark many thoughtful conversations.
Year 3 Reconciliation Retreat
Next Wednesday, 13 August, the Year 3 students will be participating in a beautiful Reconciliation Retreat, deepening their understanding of forgiveness and reflection. We are so proud of their spiritual growth and the reverence they will demonstrate throughout the day.
Bishop Sproxton’s Visit
We are honoured to be welcoming Bishop Sproxton to Liwara and the All Saints Parish next week. He will be spending time with our Year 6 students in preparation for their Confirmation. I look forward to his visit as it will be both inspiring and affirming, and we thank him for his time and blessings.
Certificate Assembly
Next Friday we will have a large group of students receiving certificates for their individual achievements. Their hard work, kindness, and perseverance are truly valued and celebrated.

CLASSROOM NEWS
MUSIC NEWS
Our Music students have been busy in class and rehearsals, demonstrating their dedication, creativity, and enthusiasm. From multiple performances to interactive lessons on music literacy and ensemble skills, it's been an exciting and productive time for all involved.
In recent weeks, students have been working hard to improve their practical skills, whether it's through instruments or singing. Our students have not only focused on strengthening their music theory but have also been diving deep into music literacy, learning how to read and understand music. They have also been developing their critical analysis skills, learning to articulate what they like or don't like about a performance in a respectful, constructive way.
The Choir students came together at the end of term two for a One Big Voice workshop and well-deserved pizza party. They spent the afternoon working hard to learn and refine the choreography ready for the evening performance at RAC Arena at the end of August, where they will be part of a Choir 3,500 students strong! For many of our Choir, this is their first time participating in One Big Voice and their excitement and enthusiasm has been wonderful to see. There are still some tickets left via the link below.
One Big Voice tickets | RAC Arena | Ticketek Australia
A special mention goes out to our talented percussion ensemble, The Fantasticks, who recently performed at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, only their second performance ever. They not only demonstrated their dedication and creativity but also the values of Liwara, congratulating other performers, displaying excellent audience behaviour and respect to the other schools. It was an amazing experience for our students, and we’re incredibly proud of their achievement.
Meanwhile Rebelclef have been busy preparing for their evening CPAF performance on Friday 22nd August, exploring how stage presence is developed, and how costuming and props can be used. They have been working hard on their ensemble skills, how to recover from on-stage mistakes, learning to really listen to each other, and how to 'just keep playing!' It will be a fantastic night with rock bands, primary and secondary, coming together from all over Perth to have fun and rock out on stage. Tickets are available via the link below.
We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Parents and Friends for their generous support in purchasing new music stands and storage trolley. These new stands are already making a huge difference in rehearsals and performances, allowing our students to focus on their music without distraction.
As we continue to work toward our many performances, we are excited to see how our students continue to grow in both their technical abilities and their passion for music. Stay tuned for more updates, and thank you to everyone who has supported our students and the music department this term!

CHILDREN'S LITURGY VOLUNTEERS - PARENT HELPERS NEEDED
We're seeking parent volunteers to join our All Saints Greenwood parish children’s liturgy team! We need extra helpers to support our group leaders in supervising young children during the Sunday 9:30am Mass children’s liturgy sessions. Typically, we ask for a commitment of just one Sunday per term. Volunteers will need to secure a Working With Children check, and we’re happy to assist you with the process. If you’d like to get involved, we’d love to have you—please text Bianca at 0418 986 893 to sign up!
PARISH YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS
TUESDAY 5TH AUGUST
Last week at 24:7 Greenwood, we enjoyed a vibrant evening filled with games, music, fellowship, and faith. The night began with a variety of card games, providing a relaxed and engaging start that encouraged conversation and connection. We then moved into our first group game, Commando, followed by the lively and lighthearted Shuffle, which had everyone laughing and involved.
After the games, we transitioned into the evening’s talk, led by our Youth Minister, Lucy. This term’s theme is the Corporal Works of Mercy, and Lucy’s message focused on Giving Alms to the Poor. She encouraged us to view our resources—particularly our money—as belonging to God, which can inspire us to give generously. Lucy also shared personal stories, including powerful experiences from her recent mission trip to Zambia, highlighting how generosity can make a real difference in the lives of others.
NEXT YOUTH GROUP
This week, we will continue exploring the Corporal Works of Mercy by focusing on Giving Drink to the Thirsty. We will welcome a guest speaker who will share their insight on this work of mercy and offer practical ways we can live it out in our own daily lives.
God bless,
Jesse and Lucy
