     PRAYER for LENT

God of Light and love, give us the open heart we need to accept what is put before us – the joys and sorrows, pain and laughter;
knowing that life will always contain both, and all.

Merciful Father, grant us the grace never to turn away from obeying
Your Son whom our sins have bruised and bloodied, but which He bore out of love for us.
Today we pray to embrace our sufferings in full trust and surrender.
It is in Your good and holy Name we pray.

Amen

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents & Caregivers

I hope you have all had a lovely past couple of weeks and have been enjoying the cooler days and evenings.

Liwara Swimming Carnival
A delightful day was had by all at our Liwara Swimming Carnival last Thursday, mainly due to the superb planning and organisation of Mr Sanders and his team of dedicated staff, enthusiastic students, and supportive parents, who truly made this event a resounding success.

It was thrilling to witness the active participation and sportsmanship displayed by our students.  Their determination, teamwork and positive attitudes were truly commendable.  It was heartening to see students cheering for their classmates, whether they were leading a race of giving their best effort.  The day was filled with excitement, camaraderie and outstanding performances and I thank everyone who contributed to the success of our Liwara Swimming Carnival.

Yr Six Ministries
Leadership skills are an integral part of a well-rounded education and last week I was privileged to present the badges to our Semester One Ministry Groups.  All our Year 6 students, whether a member of a Ministry or Acts of Service group, have been using their initiatives to lead and organise events and contribute positively to the school community.  Their leadership qualities are inspiring, and we are excited to watch them grow into future leaders.

Catholic Education Early Childhood Conference
Our Kindy teachers, Mrs Andrea Shilkin and Mrs Michelle Bratich recently attended the Catholic Education Early Childhood Conference and have shared some of their thoughts... "This year we were fortunate enough to attend the CEWA Early Childhood Conference. We were part of a wonderful community of passionate Early Childhood Educators and inspiring speakers from all over the world. The wisdom from some incredible professionals was shared with us about many topics, the main being inquiry-based learning. The big take away was that we need to prepare our young people for the changing world we live in today and the future world that belongs to our children.

Other sessions that we were inspired by were: ‘Nature Play’ and ‘Botanical Literacies’, where learning is taken outside, and the children learn through inquiry, in our local environment. It made us think how lucky we are to be teaching at Liwara where we are surrounded by natural bush. We also participated in ‘Moving Beyond Counting’ where we explored extending students number understanding beyond oral counting. We came away with a deeper knowledge of number sequence and value using play and concrete materials in Kindy.

Furthermore, we thoroughly enjoyed sessions about how we can support our students social and emotional development as well as their spiritual growth. Our favourite session was learning more about Kimochis as we have recently purchased kits for our Early Childhood classrooms. It’s a fun and playful way we can support children expressing their feelings. Watch this space as we receive more training and explore this in our Kindy and Pre-primary classes.

Every Keynote speaker and session we attended, left us excited and motivated to embed inquiry-based learning in our planning. We can’t wait to share this with our Kindy students throughout the year.".

Parents & Friends
At the P&F Meeting on Tuesday I received feedback about another successful LADS (Liwara Awesome Dads Society) camping event for our families.  I think the biggest hurdle in the future is to extend the amount of bays put aside for next year, as it was another sell out event! Thanks to the LADS for being instrumental in organising this family camping opportunity. I would like to encourage all members of our school community to come along to the meetings held in the School Hall in Weeks 2 and 7 each term at 7:00pm.

Celebrating Our Grandparents
A link was recently sent out via Seesaw for families to register numbers of grandparents who will be attending our special celebration on Thursday 21 March.  If you have not replied on their behalf yet here is the link:  https://forms.office.com/r/Lpjdbt2cQf.    A reminder that our day will begin at 8:30am, with parking available on the school oval.  Staff will be directing traffic so please follow their directions as the oval is in such good condition that we want to keep it that way.   We look forward to welcoming our grandparents into our classrooms from 8:30am.

Establishing A Community Register Of the Past 50 Years
Early next term we will be sending out a link to the community to establish a register for past students, staff, parents, grandparents, great grandparents and other members of the Liwara Community from the School's earliest days.  Please spread the news so we can collate a list, with contact details,  of as many people as possible that have been involved in the Liwara School Community over the past five decades. Your support in gathering as many names and details as possible will be a rewarding data gathering process for Liwara Primary School.

Outline of Morning (1)

Pre Kindy Grandparents Morning

50th Anniversary Photo Shoot
On Tuesday 5 March our students looked stunning in their red and green Liwara tops and were extremely excited to be involved in Part One of our 50th Anniversary photography sessions.  MSP, our annual school photo company, sent out their team to set up for a whole school overhead shot.  The date for Part Two of the special 50th photo session will be sent out via Seesaw, once confirmed as we would like the students to once again wear their red & green Liwara Sports top,  as it looks spectacular when they are all grouped together.

Carpark Courtesy
It has been brought to the attention of the office staff that there are still members of our community mis-using the bottom drive through lane, as on more than one occasion the same car has been left parked and unattended in the drive through lane, therefore blocking the way for all our other families during drop off.  Please be vigilant and follow the directions so that all drivers have a smooth and respectful experience.  Please avoid blocking the flow of traffic by leaving your car parked and unattended in the drive through lane!

Thank you for working together to create a positive and harmonious environment during drop off and picking up of studentsFollowing are a few friendly reminders to ensure a smooth and respectful experience, every day for all:

  1. Mindful Parking: Please park within designated car parks and parking spaces.
  2. Admin Carpark No 2: This carpark is not to be used as a dropping off or picking up point as this is a staff only designated car park. We have instrumental tutors, relief staff and OSHC staff arriving for work before and after school, unable to find a designated bay which can impact on our students’ learning and care if they can’t park in the designated staff carpark .
  3. Safe Picking Up & Dropping Off: Picking up and dropping off of students must be done via the three options below –
    -  The bottom carpark / drive through - Gate #3 supervised after school
    -  The top drive through - Gate #6 supervised after school
    -  The oval carpark - Gate #12 supervised after school
If you have someone new doing either the dropping off or picking up of your child could you please inform them of which carparks they have access to.
  4. Respect Reserved Spaces: Be mindful of reserved parking spaces for individuals with special needs, staff members, or other designated roles. These spaces are crucial for those who require them.
  5. Speed Limits: When driving within the parking area, observe the posted speed limits. This helps maintain a safe environment for our students and other drivers.
  6. Avoid Blocking Traffic: If waiting for a parking spot or dropping off/picking up children, do so without blocking the flow of traffic.  This helps maintain a smooth and efficient traffic flow.
  7. Gate #4: This gate is not for the use of students before and after school as the carpark is a busy one and the children’s safety can be compromised.  Students should only be using Gates #1 & #3 to enter the school in the morning and supervised gates, #3, #6 & #12 to be picked up. Our ELC parents and caregivers use gates #1 & #13 to enter the grounds to drop and collect their children from the Kindy & PP classrooms.

Change-over to Winter Uniform
A reminder that as of Term 2 all students will be required to be in their full winter uniform as outlined in the School Uniform Policy & Uniform Requirements Information

PARISH YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS

24-7 Week3

YOUTH GROUP REPORT
Last week at 24:7 Greenwood we had a smaller night but we didn’t let that stop us from having an amazing time! We started off with soccer on the oval and games inside before officially starting our night with a game of Empires.

From there we moved into a game of indoor soccer before settling down and listening to our guest speaker, Catherine. Catherine helped us to explore the question, “How big is your Bucket?” and helped the young people to understand how God is always stretching our capacity to love those around us.

NEXT YOUTH GROUP
Next week we have our Youth Volunteer Mass at 5:30pm followed by Youth Group where we have an awesome night planned. Along with our usual fun and games we have a guest speaker coming along to help us continue exploring our term theme, Heart of Faith, by sharing about God’s Kingdom and how our lives can be changed when we truly follow Jesus.

God bless,
Jesse and Lucy
